Earlier this month, National Hellenic Society Chairman Emeritus Drake Behrakis and Maria Exarhopoulos Behrakis were honored by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley by being selected as the 2025 Grand Marshals of the annual Philadelphia Greek Independence Day Parade.
The parade took place on April 6, 2025 and was part of a weekend full of activities that honored the resilience of the Greek people and served as a celebration of the rich traditions that continue to thrive in the Greek-American community of Philadelphia.
The Behrakis' were officially introduced as the Grand Marshals of the parade at Saturday night's Eleftheria Gala and recognized for their outstanding dedication and continued support of the Greek-American community. Their commitment to education and Hellenic causes was highlighted and commended as well.
On Sunday, April 6th, Mr. & Mrs. Behrakis led the procession down Benjamin Franklin Parkway to celebrate Greek Independence Day and honor the legacy of 1821. The day reflected the strength of Hellenic heritage in the region and the unity of the generations who continue to carry it forward. The presence of Drake and Maria underscored the importance of leadership rooted in service and cultural continuity and was greatly appreciated by the Greek-American community of Philadelphia.
The Behrakis' involvement received attention in various articles about the event, particularly highlighting the significant contributions of key figures. We encourage our parea to check out the coverage by our friends at the Hellenic News of America, who offer an in-depth perspective.
